Gneiss for a stable

It is difficult to keep track of all the stones, stone slabs and dry stone walls. The house is built on rock and the ceiling of the wine cellar is made of a large rock slab. From the garden to the roof, local stone was used everywhere for the construction.

The window was dry-walled with rubble stones. The old door openings were clearly visible and could easily be reopened. In the roof, too, the panels are simply laid on top of the wooden roof structure. The weight and the precise laying of the stones keep the structure stable.

Natural wood is used in many different ways as a building material

The roof structure was replaced a few years ago. The ceiling beams, floors and doors were partly well preserved and partly eaten away by insects. The heartwood of the chestnut and larch is mostly very well preserved. However, the floors made of spruce and fir wood had to be mostly replaced.

The old front doors are very weathered, but still work perfectly. A good reason to keep them and only replace what is necessary.

Lime plaster for historic and new walls

The interior walls of the rooms are mostly plastered. The historic plastering was cleaned and preserved. The walls that were badly damaged by use and previous renovations were insulated with minerals and finished with traditional lime plaster. Historic building elements such as natural stone walls and wooden door frames are thus integrated into newly added components.
