  • Hike: Foroglio - Bignasco through the wild Bavona Valley

8.3 km I 2h 19 I ↗ 222 m ↘ 471 m I Family hike through the wild Bavona valley The journey by bus and postal bus from Cevio, Centro, takes only 23 minutes, including a change in Bignasco . In Foroglio, the hiking trail leads directly to the foot of the impressive waterfall, where you can cool off in the spray and humid microclimate in summer. Afterwards, Ristorante La Froda in Foroglio invites you to enjoy a traditional Ticino meal or a refreshing aperitif in the garden. A beautiful spot with a fantastic view of the waterfall and the Bavona Valley. The trail initially leads gently up and down the left side of the valley through sparse chestnut forests. Along the way, you pass several Splüi (under-rock structures), built as shelters and stables beneath the rocks and still very well preserved today. Even today, these sometimes quite large under-rock structures provide shelter during rain and thunderstorms. In Fontana, the hiking trail is interrupted for approximately one kilometer due to the devastating storm and resulting landslide in spring 2024. The hike continues temporarily along the valley road to Mulítt . From here, the trail continues along the right bank of the Bavona to Bignasco , where the Bavona joins the Maggia . Special features: Fantastic waterfall of Foroglio right at the beginning of the hike Well-preserved Splüi (under-rock structures) which were formerly used as goat stables for transhumance: La Val Bavona... e la transumanza The hike is worthwhile even in wet weather: when it rains after dry periods, you can encounter countless fire salamanders directly on the hiking trail. • Reinforcing the basement with a natural stone wall

It starts with the demolition and removal of old door panels. We want to restore the original openings and therefore remove them. In doing so, we discover that the load-bearing basement wall is listless. Cracks and openings of up to 50mm wide indicate that the house has moved somewhat in the last decades or even centuries. At the moment everything is standing very solidly, but the structural engineer and the architect are of the opinion that the foundation needs to be reinforced. The horizontal shift of the outer wall is visible to the naked eye. This shift cannot be reversed. However, further movement must be prevented. The carpenter is already considering how he will install a functioning door in this crooked hole. The classic solution for stabilizing the wall in the Vallemaggia is also called Barbacàn . This is a massive natural stone wall used as support. The cellar wall will be reinforced over a width of 2.5 metres up to the height of the cellar ceiling. Around 3.5 cubic metres of local gneiss will be used with mortar. The work has begun and the wall is slowly growing in height.

  • Il balcone - The new outdoor space with a view of the Vallemaggia

It's surprising what has been created in the last few weeks. With the new balcony, we have discovered our most beautiful living space in the sun and fresh air. It is particularly impressive that we were able to support the new construction on the ancient, weathered beams and so only minimal interventions in the original construction were necessary. From the new wooden balcony, we enjoy the view of the Vallemaggia together. We feel safe on the new balcony made of natural larch wood. We are now standing where the old beams used to stick out of the wall and the original balcony was probably demolished many years ago. Beautiful detail work on the wooden railing. The wooden construction will not be treated and will gradually blend in with the existing wood.

  • restoration of the dry stone walls

The authorities in Bellinzona took a long time with our building permit. Instead of around two months, it was with the canton for around eight months. So we used the time in autumn 2022 to make simple repairs and restore the dry stone walls outside. We had great support from Martin and Helen, who, between beautiful hikes and fine food (Cicitt!), also had energy for restoring dry stone walls. In addition, the film crew from Jakobs Ross used our garden as a dance floor.

  • Hike: Collinasca - Corino - Cerentino - Collinasca
