This short and easy hike starts right outside the front door and leads up the valley through the village to Cevio Vecchio along the valley flank through sparse chestnut forests. On the way we discover I GROTTI DI Cevio Vecchio with quiet, shady places for a short break. Outside of Cevio we pass the Chiesa di S.Maria Assunta e S.Giovanni Battista with its impressive bell tower.
La Lüèra (the wolf trap) and the Piodau rock face are other discoveries that we make on the way to Bignasco and also in the village center of Bignasco we find various interesting buildings, palazzi and the impressive stone bridge over the Maggia , which we cross and follow the hiking trail on the eastern side of the valley.
At Besso we descend into the valley again to cross the stone bridge at Gola del Lupo to reach Cavergno and then descend to the bathing area, where the cool Maggia with a sandy beach awaits us.
If you want to return on foot, you can take the same route back. From Cavergno there is also a very good bus connection to Cevio Centro , which shortens the return journey.
Special features:
Beautiful picnic areas at I GROTTI DI Cevio Vecchio
Bignasco – Lüèra (trappola del lupo) - an impressive historical wolf trap
Relax and cool off on the Maggia at the bathing area in Cavergno
